Ariel's Emergency Medical Fund

My name is Ariel Davidson. This year has been one of the hardest years of my life due to some pretty serious medical issues that I have been having. In July I was diagnosed with Endometriosis which required me to have a routine surgery to remove the Endometriosis that was suffocating my right ovary causing immense pain.  That surgery went well however; while I was in the recovery room my blood pressure dropped drastically low (I almost passed away). Come to find out I had an internal bleed located by my spleen in the lining of my stomach wall. I was rushed back into emergency surgery. I had 2 blood transfusions after they repaired the internal bleed in the exploratory surgery. I was supposed to go home after the routine surgery but due to the complications I was admitted into ICU for 3 days. While in ICU I had to have another blood transfusion. My daughter Skyler Paige was unable to see me while I was in ICU and did not understand why mommy wasn’t coming home or why she couldn’t see me. I was finally moved into a regular room in the hospital where Skyler was able to come visit me. These words haunt me to this day- Skyler told me “mommy you told me I will see you tonight after I got home from school and you didn’t come home and they wouldn’t let me come see you”. All I could do was squeeze her and tell her mommy is ok now. I had to stay another 4 days in the hospital but was released on strict bed rest and was not be able to return to work quit some time.  I ended up being out of work for a total of 10 weeks.  I was able to return to work in mid-September.  I continued to have to miss multiple days of work due to numerous doctor’s appointments and pain due to the traumatic experience my body went through. As my doctor told me those 2 surgeries in the same day was like I was ran over by a freight train then it stopped on me then backed up over me and went full speed slamming into me.

In late October I was helping Skyler get her clothes off to get into the bath and heard a loud pop in my low back. I immediately felt excruciating stabbing pain in my low back accompanied by extreme numbness, weakness and the feeling of walking on pins and needles in my feet. Due to not the amount of pain I was in I had to miss another day of work to go see an orthopedic doctor. He me made me an emergency appointment to go see a pain management doctor to get an injection done in my back to make it to where I was able to maintain living until I could get in to get an MRI to see what had happened.  I was put on home rest at my 1st appointment until we got the MRI results.  After I got the MRI done I got a very scary call from the doctor after she saw my MRI results.  I was told I needed to see a surgeon as soon as possible as the results were not good at all and I would have to be off work until I saw the surgeon. I got the next available appointment (a week later.)  The surgeon said surgery is a must ASAP.  He needed to determine which surgery would fix the damage as I had 2 herniated disk that had that caused the nerve spacing to collapsed I was left on bed rest unable to work or provide for my family putting us even further behind. My Dr. sent me to have a CT/ Myelogram done to determine which surgery I needed. Once he got the CT/Myelogram results I was put on even stricter bed rest (not allowed to stay sitting or standing longer than 30 minutes and needed to stay laying down as much as possible until surgery was done due to the location and severity of the damage.  I saw the surgeon on Tuesday 11/17 and got even worse news I have to have a fusion at 2 different levels in my low back and will be unable to work before surgery and a minimum of 9 months after the surgery. My surgeon wanted me to go see a cardiovascular doctor due to the exploratory surgery I had in July to repair the internal bleed to see how much scare tissue I had.  I saw him on  on Tuesday 11/24*my birthday* to determine if they will be able to do the traditional fusion surgery as they will have to enter through my stomach to clean out the compromised disk, bone spurs that are stabbing into the nerves and reroute the nerves that the spacing has completely collapsed around; then go through my back to screw the vertebrae together. If the cardiovascular doctor determines there is too much scare tissue from the previous surgery, they will have to do the full fusion through my back-which can still be done but will take an extra 3 hours in surgery. I have currently been off work since the end of the 3rd week of October and will not be able to return until almost the end of next year.
On 11/29/15 my husband was driving us home from picking him up from work(which is only around the corner from our house) and he had to swerve to the left and slam on the brakes to avoid an accident causing me tremendous pain in my back and my whole right leg went numb. We made it to our house my husband helped me inside(I was unable to walk on my right leg at all). I called my back doctor and was told to go to the hospital as I most likely will be admitted.
I currently am at the hospital and will be here until surgery(which hopefully will be any day) unforturnatly my husband does not make enough money to pay our bills and I am unable to work at all as I am in excreuciating pain.

I have never been in a position like this before. I am so scared, depressed and very worried that I won’t be able to not only pay our monthly bills or keep food on the table. Not to mention all the medical bills that have already been accrued and the more bills to come. I have already met my deductible but there are a few hospital bills that were accrued before the Endometriosis surgery that we were not able to get caught up on because I only worked 4 weeks before I injured my back.

My employer cut my pay down from salary to hourly and will not allow me to work from home (even though we have remote access to be able to log in from home and I can do my job from home.) They informed me this week that due to me being an hourly employee now and not working full time I do not qualify for my benefits and they are going to be taking me off of my insurance or make it to where I have to pay for my daughters and I health insurance. Which there is no way financially we can afford that at this time.  I have been off work since the day after I injured my back and I will be off for many months to come (but not long enough to qualify for disability.)

We will use this money to take some of the pressure off of both of us as it will be able to pay our rent, our car payment and all of our utilities for the month.
